What is meant by focusing on the small wins?

A lot of the time we get too wrapped up on the fact that we’ve not yet achieved exactly what we wanted.

We’ve got big dreams and big goals and it’s going to take us a long time to get there. Or we’ve been working on our dreams, we’ve been working on trying to succeed for a number of months or a number of years and we’ve not got there. All too quickly people can get disheartened. The people around you can start to question whether or not you’re ever actually going to achieve what you said you would.

Many people have got really good intentions. But all too often, end up stopping doing what they’re doing because they just became a little bit impatient. I’ve done it myself. I know people around me that have done it. Everybody does do it. So, if it’s something you do, I don’t think it’s something to be worried about.

So, what I mean by focusing on the small things is….. Yes, you’ve got to have your big goals that will pull you towards WHERE you want to go. But in order to get there, it’s really important to have the smaller steps of HOW you’re going to get there.

You must WORK YOUR WAY BACK. Whether that be in a number of years or a number of months from your final destination. You have got to have those steps and have them set them in such a way that you get LITTLE WINS as you go.

Whether it be daily, weekly, monthly. Have some MILESTONES that you can work towards. That you can celebrate. That you can feel good in yourself that you’ve achieved something. That you’ve got a box on a wall that you tick off for something that you can really celebrate.

And every time you do reach one of those MILESTONES. Actually CELEBRATE. Feel good about it! Achieving anything, the smallest of things is brilliant.

Every great journey starts with the FIRST STEP. I’m a big believer in, you just need to keep taking small steps as you go along. Every step you’re achieving something, you’re getting further. Even if it’s learning what not to do!

There are hundreds, thousands, millions of people that never actually take any steps at all. So every single step that you take is an achievement and you should applaud yourself for doing that because it’s not easy to get out of your comfort zone and make the effort.

Similarly, we’ve got to be looking at our goals and remember –  the more you FOCUS ON THE PROCESS, and not on the result, the more likely it is that you will stick to what you’re doing.

I’ve got a little TO-DO LIST that I have to do every day. The five or six most VALUABLE things that are going to mean that day has taken me a step forward. Everyday, I get up early, I do my affirmations, I do my blog, I review and amend my weekly TO-DO LIST for the business and I make the plan of what I’m going to achieve that day. This keeps me on track with what I know I have to achieve that week.

This TO-DO-LIST keeps me going back, focusing on the process. I know that every day I’ve achieved something of value. Every day I’m stepping a little bit further forward rather than getting distracted on less important tasks. And the results, I know that everything that I want will come because I know that if I focus on the process, eventually the results will come.

So that’s it really. Look to achieve something every single day. Every single week, try and look back to reflect on how you’ve achieved a little bit more. And it doesn’t have to be massive. Just anything. And really CELEBRATE that. This will ensure that you really know that you’re making progress as you are keeping a track of what it is that you’re doing.

So in summary:

Set your milestones in your calendar.

Write your weekly and daily to-do lists.

Celebrate every achievement, however small, celebrate every milestone!
